The first comic Previous comic Next comic Today's comic

June 13, 2008

So not a lot came out comics-wise this week that I read. The biggest thing was the final issue of Local. I LOVE that series. The art is so smooth and pretty and gritty all at the same time, and the stories are really interesting little thingies. I'm sad to see it come to an end, really, but it was a good last issue.

Thursday's comic didn't come out quite right. It looked better on paper. When I draw on paper, there's white space between the panels, and the strip looked really cool. When I added the black around it like I always do, then it kinda lost whatever it was it had when it was on white paper. I'll have to learn to keep things like that in consideration from now on.

As far as my comic art goes, I'm really going out of my way to try and make my handwriting more legible, and to include more background shots. I was talking with Prickly City artist Scott Stantis about Kastle Comics the other day, and he brought up a very good point. Aside from all the main characters and such, the comic book shop itself is almost like a character, too. The place has a lot of personality that I haven't really been expressing enough in the comic strip. So in my recent comics, I've been trying to include at least one detailed background shot of the store so readers get more of an idea of what the place is like. You guys won't see the fruits of those labors for about another two months, because of how far ahead of schedule I am in my drawings, but look forward to some very pretty background work coming up shortly.

In other news, the Create a Comic Project will be starting back up again in July, and Kastle Comics will be a proud participant. Banzai!
